Abstract

After having explained the meaning of Arabic term ‘vasiyyat’, this academic paper first elaborates on how the Qur’an uses this term in the form of instructions, testaments and recommendations, and continues with mentioning of the sealed testament that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) left to his followers. There is also mentioning of highly advised and recommended conducts, i.e. piousness and charity toward family members, parents, relatives, as well as other people, which brings the emphasis on the virtues of Islamic mild manners and good behavioral code. The paper further mentions Allah’s testaments and the testaments of other Allah’s prophets (pbut), passed onto their followers, i.e. Abraham, Jacob, Noah and Jesus. The collections of Abraham and Moses with various recommendations and advice have also been referred to. A greatest part of this academic paper has been dedicated to Muhammad’s (pbuh) methods of teaching and advising of his companions, individual as well as a group one, depending on the circumstances and conditions his companions found themselves in. Some of the Prophet’s recommendations have been mentioned in numbers, i.e., 5 instructions, and seven, nine or any number of recommendations. The paper concludes with the list of 22 instructions and recommendations from the Qur’an, accompanied by the list of 108 hadith and recommendations. There is no doubt that this paper could be used as a reference for those involved in teaching and instructing, along with those who strive to live their lives according to the instructions and directions set out in the Hadiths and the Qur’an.
