THE FATHER’S ROLE IN UPBRINGING A CHILD

Abstract

This article attempts to point out the significance of a fathers role in the process of upbringing children, with regards to the Qur’anic messages and the examples from lives of the messengers, primarily the Sunnah of Muhammad s.w.s. Recorded history of his life shows how the Messenger s.w.s. actively participated in upbringing of his children and grand children taking care of all the aspects of their lives. To Muslims he is a role model in all the dimensions of life, and the author here is making an accent on this particular segment of the life of Muhammad s.w.s that he regards as very important for the future of mankind. Author here also points out that in the process of upbringing children father is not, however substitute for a mother, but the need for his more extensive engagement in this process is accented when mother is engaged in the activities outside the home. Nonetheless, father’s role is irreplaceable and his parental responsibility is essential weather mother has obligations outside home or not.
