Summary

Drama ‘Ilhamija’ written by Rusmir Agacevic can be classified as a historical drama based on real historical personalities and real historical events. Through the character of Ilhamija Agacevic contemplates current ideological and philosophical issues and by drawing a parallel with the past attempts to find answers to the current issues. On the bases of this we might affirm the theory which claims that the embryo of the historical drama writing is to be found within the social need for a political theatre through which by universal values and messages from the past we can demystify contemporary issues. Ilhamia is one of the most remarkable figures of Bosnian history in the period between 18th and 19th century. In the literary history of Bosnia and Herzegovina there has been no one as great as this person who was willing to sacrifice his own life for freedom of speech reflected in his poetry, knowing this it is not a wonder that he inspired many poets that came after him. In his poetry he discloses all the misery of his time, reveals the injustice that is done and calls for a struggle against the violence, in this way he offers an ideal form for construction of historical dramas that are simply crying out for such figures from the past that could best reflect contemporary issues.
