Abstract

The account of Ṣāliḥ, peace be upon him, and his people Thamūd is found in several Qur’anic surahs. The author points out the numerous blessings that this people enjoyed, but arrogance and insolence prevented them from believing in the Prophet Ṣāliḥ, peace be upon him, and from being grateful to God, Glorified and Exalted, for those blessings. Neither their eyes nor their hearts were opened by the camel which, by God’s will, appeared out of nowhere as a sign of the truthfulness of the prophethood of Ṣāliḥ, peace be upon him. They denied the prophethood of Ṣāliḥ, peace be upon him, humiliated and belittled him, and killed the helpless camel. Due to their harshness and lack of compassion, their punishment was cruel and severe.
