Abstract

The article represents a religious education written class plan, for a third grade of the nineyear elementary school education program. It presents a teaching unit titled “A man who gave Zakat”, which is a part of the “Islamic duties” section. Zakat (Alms) is an obligatory spending of a fixed portion of one’s wealth for the common good and for the poor and needy. Allah loves those who give Zakat, and people love them too. Zakat purifies and multiplies one’s wealth. This teaching unit has been used to foster in children a sense for helping others, a sense of understanding the value of giving and helping, a sense of gratitude for all that Allah gives us, a respect for the rights the poor have on the property of the affluent, a sense for being tidy when working, a sense for getting used to work in groups, a sense of solidarity and responsibility for group success, a sense for getting used to addressing elders in a polite way and a sense for developing love for Allah’s commands.
