The article aims to contribute to the present discourse regarding the reform of higher education of the Islamic Community. It presents a review of plans and programmes of madrasas and of the Faculty of the Islamic Studies of Sarajevo University through history with a focus on the subject of qiraat. The significance of competency in the subject for imams is also discussed along with its significance in the mentioned reforms. This article also offers a review of the role and function of this subject at the Faculty of Islamic Studies with details of the content, aims and goals of the studies of qiraat through the four-semester study plan and programme
