Artificial intelligence is increasingly penetrating various spheres of human life. Since the emergence of ChatGPT in 2022, educational systems have faced new and complex challenges. ChatGPT can generate stylistically and content-wise high-quality texts in a very short time. Consequently, the boundary between authentic student engagement and results achieved using AI tools is becoming increasingly blurred. In such circumstances, the role of the religious teacher gains greater significance. This paper analyses the potentials and risks of applying artificial intelligence in Islamic religious education, with particular attention to ethical and didactic dimensions and challenges. Theoretical considerations are complemented by a practical example from classroom practice.
