Today, as wars proliferate around the world using destructive sophisticated systems and weaponry, resulting in the loss of thousands of human lives and the destruction of monuments of global cultural heritage, the question of morality and ethical principles guiding military operations arises anew. This paper presents the experience of an American general and her understanding of the significance of religious service in the military. The text is particularly interesting and significant given that the religious service within the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established and structured based on the model of the United States military chaplaincy.
