Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between power and ethos in contemporary politics using the example of “Global Ethic, ” a project of German philosopher and theologian, Hans Küng. Modern politics oscillates between two extremes: realpolitik and idealpolitik. According to Küng, the modern political paradigm places interests and the struggle for power in the centre of political activity. The result of such a paradigm is a total absence of ethos in political activity. It is necessary to install a new political paradigm which will not discredit universal moral rules. This paradigm’s first aim is the curbing of power and regulating it through world ethos. Only global political ethos, as Küng sees it, will lead to world peace and justice.
