MAKTAB CLASS INBETWEEN INNOVATION AND PRESERVING THE TRADITION

The aim of the present article is to introduce, in chronological order, activities undertaken regarding the Teaching Plan and Programme of maktab class, and the results of the conducted survey with regards to maktab and maktab class. Maktab and maktab class are the topics worthy of our attention keeping in mind the role and signifi cance of maktab for the Islamic community but also for the society as a whole. Th e number of people directly or indirectly involved in educational and upbringing process of the maktab teaching class in a role of students, teachers (muallims), parents and others is both promising and encouraging. It shows growing interest in maktab and maktab teaching that has continuity in its work and development. Th e scope of teaching the maktab class and the results it is achieving point to the fact that this is a very signifi cant “institution” that demands our care and attention. Directorate for Religious Aff airs of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has, in the period between September 2015-December 2017, intensively worked on new Teaching Plan and Programme for maktab teaching class. In this article we present the activities undertaken in the mentioned period as well as the results of those activities. For the purpose of viewing the actual state of maktab and maktab class and collecting necessary data related to it and in order to consider the opinions and ideas of relevant people we used a questionnaire. Answers obtained and the results of the questionnaire wherein main imams, imams/ muallims and muallimas, bords of jamaats and parents of the students took part are also presented here. On the bases of these results we defi ned some solutions to the issues pertaining to the organisation of maktab class.
