Human beings are created from the earth, live upon it, derive sustenance from it, and ultimately return to it after their worldly life. As the only creature endowed with the freedom of choice - obedience or disobedience - humans are entrusted with the responsibility to use the blessings bestowed upon them in a conscientious manner. Through irresponsible attitudes toward nature and its resources, humans may transgress boundaries and cause harm to themselves and other creatures. This tendency has become particularly pronounced since the Industrial Revolution, which placed humans at the center and promoted nature solely as a resource to be exploited without limitation. Such an approach endangers life on Earth. The Islamic perspective on relationship with nature restores humans to their original role as trustees (khulafāʾ), responsible for their actions and accountable to the Lord of all creation for the trust (amānah) they bear. Through analysis of Islamic sources, this paper explores and highlights the fundamental principles of ecology, balance, and responsibility in Islam.
