In the Muslim tradition, the principles governing human interaction with the surrounding world are grounded in the normative sources of Islam, which provide a balanced equilibrium between the demands of the human soul and worldly needs. Although this world is conducive to human life, it carries a higher purpose that points to its Creator, as well as an aesthetic dimension through which the beauty of creation and the wisdom of the Creator are perceived. The human being is entrusted with the role of vicegerent (khalīfa) on Earth. It is his duty to cultivate the land (ihyāʾ al-mawāt), build, utilize resources, and also to enjoy the beauty of the world that surrounds him. This paper seeks to highlight these aspects of nature, guided by the need to bring closer to humanity the values of this world that are increasingly unrecognized, as nature is more and more reduced to material utility, thereby obscuring an integrated vision devoid of wonder and spiritual enjoyment.
