In this paper, the author presents a verse-by-verse commentary (tafsīr) on Surah al-Mujādilah (The Dispute), the 58th chapter of the Qur'an, comprising twenty-two verses. The surah derives its name from the word tujādiluka in its opening verse, which recounts the case of a woman who appealed to the Prophet Muhammad, seeking guidance after her husband had placed her in a difficult situation. The chapter is also known as Al-Mujādilah ("The Woman Who Pleaded") and Qad Sami'a, after the opening words of the first verse. This surah was revealed in Medina. Based on its content, Mawdudi argues that it can be stated with confidence that it was revealed after the Battle of the Trench, in the fifth year after the Hijrah. The central theme of the surah is Divine omniscience, a concept that is expressed in multiple ways throughout its verses.
